Breathing in Lebanon
Hi. We've been in Lebanon for a couple of days now. The internet here is a little tricky to use. Yesterday we had sort of a free day after flying into Beirut. So, we took in some sight seeing. First we went to see some caves called the Jietta Grotto. There's a gondola ride that takes you up to some caves with stalactites and stalagmites. Sad thing was, no pictures were allowed to be taken. They enforced this so heavily, that upon entrance, you had to stow your camera bag in provided lockers. The funny thing was, the lockers were sponsored by Kodak. Thanks Kodak! Well, I was a bit put off by this, but I managed to sneak in my phone. So, pictures will be posted soon. We had a great time just horsing around. We even had laughs about a lady who seemed to have a tattoo of herself on her arm. The caves themselves were beautiful and it was cool just to get to see them. After the caves, we went to find a high up view of the coast. This brought us to a new cathedral being built. Next to the cathedral is a spiral tower topped with a huge statue of the Virgin Mary, overlooking the city below. Below the tower, there was a church service going on, with the liturgy being sung in Arabic, which I must say sounded beautiful. We climbed up to the top of the tower. Space was tight with many people doing the same thing.
